Job Description: 

Career Counselors engage clients in a one-on-one learning experience and/or group sessions to provide guidance in the area of career development.  The goal is to support clients in removing barriers to employment retention and advancement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients on a regular basis to assess career advancement and maintenance along with progress towards employment goals.
    • Teach program participants in employment subjects based on program goals and course objectives including job skills and training, post-secondary education, career development and job retention skills using a variety of learning activities to further comprehension of subject matter.
    • Develops and implements individualized service plan with the client to address identified employment needs.
    • Performs comprehensive career assessments for clients according to established standards.
    • Complete all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with funding requirements, licensing requirements, COA standards, and agency quality assurance standards.
    • Cultivate positive relationships with relevant funding and monitoring entities, faith based organizations, social service providers, and other community partners. Participate in appropriate community collaborations.
      • Advocates for clients with potential and current employers.
      • Enrolls client in or refers client to appropriate job development courses to meet the individualized service plan goals.
      • Perform follow-up with former clients to determine quantity and quality of service provided, assess progress, and further assist in movement toward career goals.
        • Initiates and completes case closure when appropriate.

Necessary Skills/Experience: 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Work or related field and at least one year of experience in a social service environment or a combination of education and experience. • Bilingual skills in a common client language are preferred. • Prior recruitment/career counseling experience is preferred.
Schedule Requirements: 
Regular office hours are Monday through Friday 8 to 5. Occasional after hours work required to meet the needs of the clients. Work location is the main campus on Thornhill Drive.
